Analysis of promo videos

For this week we have been looking at examples of promotional videos and analyzing then in terms of there content, style, structure and sound. We looked at three examples as a group and then i went online and found two more examples myself.

The first video we looked at was for a company called PSM, a engineering and manufacturing company. In terms of content you can see there are no presenters to the video it is comprised of some computer graphics at the beginning, with clips of people working within manufacturing in the middle and titles at the end.

For style it used a professional corporate style. The video is medium paced with each shot lasting around 3/4 seconds and uses various effects such as fading in out, dissolves and titles flying in and out at scenes at the end of the video. There's a mix of long shots setting the scene then close shots showing in detail what the workers at the company are working on.

There is a set structure to the video, with an introduction, then a show of the products they sell, an overview of the company, some examples of work shown and finally it concludes with it listing services the company can offer.

For sound there is a constant background track of a more modern country style music there's no real additional sound effects added to this. There is however a prominent voice over to the entire video with a deep mans voice. This is to draw attention and show a kind of authority and that he knows what he,s talking about.

The second video we looked at was for a company called Boston Video production a media production company. In terms of content most of the video is made up of animation, computer graphics and titles. There is a little bit of filmed footage in the website scrolling down seen and the video screens with people in them. Also there is brief examples of the company's work at the end of the video.

For style it used a modern style. The video is fast paced with each shot lasting around a seconds and uses a few effects such as cross dissolves that were most likely added in Adobe After Effects.

The structure is more titles and special effects led. Most of the video is made up of various graphics with no presenter, story and very few examples of work. This can make it very vague on the type of company it is and what there promoting.

For sound there is a an added lower budget soundtrack. With a few generated sound effects added, as seen on the horses running and the photographs being taken.

The third video we looked at was for a company called Shots Media Company another media production company. In terms of content the video has no presenters and is made up of shots of the building where they work, of people designing and working on projects there, some examples of work and then the company logo as an ident.

For style it used a modern corporate style. The video is fast paced, uses just simple cuts throughout and has a mix of different shot types. It emphasizes a lot of close up shots to show production work being done in detail.

There is some structure set out in the video, there is an introduction, then it takes a small tour of the building, shows some of the staff working on various projects and then ends with the company logo.

For sound there is a an instrumental track added, this is to make sure your not too distracted and are focusing on whats going on in the video. A few sound effects are also added to bring you into the action with some examples being the phones ringing at the reception and photos being taken on one of the shoots.
